Federal indictment of judges Michael Conahan and Mark Civarella Jr. for an assortment of federal crimes, including honest services wire fraud 18 USC 1346 and 1343. A coalition of family court reform advocates in Sacramento County, CA will request a similar indictment from the U.S. Department of Justice Public Integrity Section by the end of 2013.
Like the Conahan and Ciavarella case, judges in Sacramento County Family Court have adopted procedures which result in litigants with a right to counsel appearing without counsel for the benefit of Sacramento County Bar Association Family Law Section divorce and family law attorneys. The court also has adopted procedures that result in the absence of a normal court record, obstructing appellate review. As it was in Luzerne County, the adoption of the unlawful procedures was accomplished through the discretionary decision-making authority of family court judges (page 35 of the indictment). State and local authorites have proven incapable of addressing the lawlessness. For details:
